Brest Cancer Awareness Month- IFAC
If I Think back 10 years I can actually remember when I first learned about Cancer…. I was taking classes in college and I picked up a job working in an obgyn lab in a community hospital. When I got the job I didn’t know that the offices were connected to the oncology center, to tell you the truth I didn’t even know what “Oncology” was. As I got to know the office personal I met a lady named Pam. Oh Pam, she was a sweet, older woman that had such a big heart. One day I saw her cleaning a pink lid, the kind you find on the Yoplait yogurt cans and asked her what was she doing. She told me that for every lid you send the company they would send $.10 to breast cancer research. Remember I’m a kid in college… the last thing I would think about was donating to a cause threw lids. But as I heard her talk about this patient we both knew, I thought “why am I NOT donating to such a cause”? I’ll never forget Pam.
Soon after I came back to Texas my mother had informed me that a cousin of mine had found out she had Brest cancer. Again, I had heard about it but was not informed about it. Pink ribbons, commercials, products reminded me of it but I still didn’t know about the disease or cause. Definitely didn’t know any one that had it either, until now. At first it was kind of like “really?” Hum… But after I found out what she was going threw I felt saddened. How can you get it? Is it hereditary? I was asking questions but still confused. Some time has passed and now my cousin is in remission but still very weak. Although she has had a very hard time with it at the monument her life is looking better every day. Thank God.
As a photographer I never thought I’d get a change to help but last week I came across a post that was sent to me about a organization that is helping out this month. Images for a Cure/ IFAC- I am so happy to participate in this and couldn’t help but pass it along.
Please for everyone that has known someone or has been affected by this deadly disease please come together and let’s try to raise awareness and help in the fight for research.
I will be posting more information on how to help in a couple of days-
